Amazon was the leader among ecommerce retailers in traffice for December with 214.8 million unique visitors, according to Comscore, blah blah blah. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

The class of merchants, on which locally owned businesses should keep a close watch are those offering online shopping and/or click-and-collect options. Their share of revenue rose from 21.6% in 2018 to 27% in 2019. Really, the eyes should be kept on those leading the way for online shopping whether delivery or pick-up.

It’s difficult enough for locally owned retailers to compete against large national box retailers, so it’s time to face the fact that online shopping is not going away. It should be considered a second location and new brick and mortar. The most important thing to remember, IT’S ALL ABOUT CONSUMER BEHAVIOR AND CONVENIENCE, MAKING IT EASY FOR THE CONSUMER TO BUY FROM YOU.
